Theoretical research<\/h4>

Articulate Instruments is a vehicle for piloting speculative research without the need to apply for funding.<\/p>

In 2014 data from the visual human project and Amira segmentation software was used to trace muscle fibre paths without prejudice of the prevailing 8 muscle model. This indicated a finer structure. Reviews of work by reseachers in other fields working on histology, anatomy and electromyography supported this view of a finer neuromuscular compartmental structure<\/a>.<\/p>

To test the efficacy of this compartmental structure bespoke biomechanical modelling<\/a> software (GGSim) was developed and a model of the tongue structure built from the mesh generation component of the software.\u00a0<\/p>

Work has also been carried out examining the role that different levels of the neural system play in motor control of movements<\/a>. One key finding being that motor neurons and interneurons in motor nuclei are responsible for controlling movement of articulators from current position to target.<\/p>
